When it comes to taking on film roles, Shia LaBeouf gives method acting a whole new meaning.
The 26-year-old actor gave the USA Today an interview in which he revealed that he dropped acid on the set of his upcoming movie The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.
He tells the newspaper, “There’s a way to do an acid trip like ‘Harold & Kumar,’ and there’s a way to be on acid.”
He adds, “What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that [electric] chair in Dead Man Walking. These are the guys that I look up to.”
In the flick, LaBeouf plays a guy who falls for a crime boss’ girlfriend, and in one scene, his character takes LSD.
LeBeouf apparently takes his ‘craft’ seriously. It was recently revealed that the actor would engage in real sex onset of his forthcoming film The Nymphomaniac. Regarding the sure-to-be controversial film, he told MTV News, “It is what you think it is. There’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing [the sex] for real. And everything that is ‘illegal’ we’ll shoot in blurred images. But other than that, everything is happening.”
Everything about this guy is just cryptic, right? And I don’t know about you but it doesn’t seem like taking acid on a film set while playing a character that takes acid is really acting, it’s more like “doing”. Same for the “real sex” thing. If you’re actually doing something that your character is supposed to be doing, can you consider it acting? I’m confused. It’s not the first time…ha.
