The Melvins’ Van Scribbled With Kurt Cobain’s Art Has Been Sold!

Melvins Van With Kurt Cobain Art Sold

It’s taken almost six months but the van that was once owned by the band Melvins, and famously doodled on by the late Kurt Cobain, has finally been sold to one lucky bidder.

The 1972 Dodge Sportman Royal Van, or the “Melvan” as it was known by, was sold on eBay for a cool $24,701. The ride, which was used as the Washington-based Melvins’ tour bus for years and years, was made especially famous since it had Cobain’s drawing of rock legends KISS on it. Not a bad sketch might I add. Cobain was close buds with the Melvins and considered them one of his favorite punk bands of all time.

Tad Doyle, singer of the Seattle grunge band Tad, says that Cobain drew the mural with a black Sharpie marker that was supposedly stolen from a local grocery store in Montesano, where Melvins singer Buzz Osborne previously worked at.

It’s not known who the buyer is or what his or her plans are, but it would be cool if it was put up in some sort of music museum, to preserve it and so it could be shared with the public. It is a piece of Washington’s punk/grunge rock history!
