When Katy Perry came onto the scene years ago, I’ll admit (I’ve admitted before), I really wasn’t that much of a fan. I thought for sure, the “I Kissed A Girl” singer was living up her 15-minute, corporate-made image, but as time went on, and I tried opening my mind and ears I found that I really respect Ms. Perry. She’s a sweet, charitable chica and she’s awesome at what she does for a living. There I said it.
Anyhoo, Perry recently attended Comedy Central’s celebrity-packed and televised (this Sunday) benefit Night of Too Many Stars, the annual charity fundraiser that helps raise money for autism education programs, and with the help of a fan, Perry made the night magical.
The pop superstar was joined onstage by a young autistic girl named Jodi DiPiazza, who accompanied her in singing her hit “Firework”.
It was such a sweet experience that host Jon Stewart was on the verge of tears. Even Perry herself was moved. After the show she tweeted out, “I will never forget last night. It was the most important moment thus far of what I do.”
Go ahead and watch the beautiful performance below. You can catch the full special on Comedy Central Sunday night (Oct. 21) at 8 p.m. EST.
