Sam Lutfi Says Amphetamine Abuse Caused Britney Spears’ Meltdown

You knew once the Britney Spears/Sam Lutfi trial began, the shiz was going to hit the fan.

You might recall that Britney’s former manager filed a lawsuit against both Britney and her parents, citing breach of contract and defamation of character. At one point during Britney’s ongoing conservatorship, a restraining order was put on Lutfi to stay away from the popstar and her family. Britney’s phone and internet use are even monitored, partly because her conservators demand she have no contact with her ex-manager.

Anyway, Lutfi promised to get the ‘truth’ out there, even if that meant revealing things that the Spears family didn’t want known. He was bloody adamant about it. Even his Twitter bio shows this:

“FALSELY accused of doing horrible things by horrible people. Love challenges eg: helped save the life of an incredible pop star -THE TRUTH”

Well now that the trial has begun, we’re hearing snippets of what’s being said.

So far, we’re learning that Britney’s meltdown in 2007 was most likely fueled by her drug use (at least according to Lutfi’s lawyer Joseph Schleimer)…specifically meth. Schleimer told the jury, “She liked to use amphetamines.  Most everything that went wrong was because of this drug.”

He also claimed that her drug use (and abuse) is the reason why she shaved her head. He said that Britney was worried that if a judge tested her hair during the time she was trying to get back custody of her kids, it would test positive for the hardcore drugs she was doing at the time. So, therefore, she shaved it off.

In the lawyer’s opening statement, he revealed that the night paramedics took the star away from her home (back in 2008) on a stretcher, and had her placed on a 5150 hold, she had consumed a large amount of amphetamines.

Though Schleimer admitted that Lutfi used Adderall (an amphetamine-based drug used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder) for ADD, he claims his client never gave Britney the drug. He also said that Lutfi repeatedly tried to get Britney off the drugs, and tried getting her to meet with psychiatrists, but with no success. Apparently, one time he even brought a drug-sniffing dog to her house and found crystal meth.

As for Britney’s dad Jamie, Schleimer says that he once physically attacked Lutfi, which knocked the wind out of him.

To Lutfi’s credit, Schleimer told the jury that it was Britney who sought out his client to manage her. He also adds that it was Lutfi who should get credit for hooking Britney up with her (now) fiancé Jason Trawick, as he introduced them to each other at Jason’s Halloween party in 2007.

It’s no secret Britney was a mess at this unfortunate time in her life, but I think the reality is, Lutfi was anything but a good influence on her. I think he saw money signs when it came down to it. Luckily, she’s in a much better place. Hope she stays there.
