You need to know that when Lana Del Rey is singing about female anatomy, it’s coming from the heart, this coming from the 26-year-old singer herself. She recently shot down claims that she has put on a facade to sell records by revealing that she doesn’t “need a persona to live through”.
Ever since her song “Video Games” became a YouTube sensation back in 2011, Del Rey has been bombarded with accusations claiming she’s not authentic due to the major changes some say she’s undergone since performing under her real name of Lizzie Grant.
Talking with Vanity Fair, Del Rey says: ”I’ve been doing what I do for a long time. I’ve had a life. I don’t need to create a persona to live through.”
Regarding the reason she wanted to become a songwriter she adds: “I wanted to be a writer, to be involved, but I didn’t know how. I was looking for answers.”
I wasn’t familiar with Lana back in her Lizzie days, and even now I’ve only heard a handful of her songs. Her music isn’t my style per se but what I like about her is that she’s kind of a weirdo. She’s quirky, and I always like that type. Just reading about the struggles she’s gone through growing up and even silly things like what her tattoos symbolize intrigues me enough to be and stay interested. I dig the chick.
