Kate Middleton: Nurse Suicide After Radio Prank

You probably heard about the Australian radio DJs who called up the hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated (she’s pregnant in case you have been living under a rock) and pretended to be Queen Elizabeth. They had atrocious accents, but Jacintha Saldanha put the prank call through to Middleton’s room where a second nurse answered questions about Middleton’s treatment and health. The call was recorded and aired on the Australian radio station and then it went viral and was heard around the world.

The hospital, King Edward VII hospital, was the laughingstock of the planet.

Sure. it sounds like a hilarious story, but it was not funny for the nurse who transferred the call to Kate Middleton’s hospital room where her pregnancy treatment at the hospital was broadcast to the world. As we all know, privacy while being treated is of utmost concern, so after the prank went bad, the nurse was left to deal with the aftermath. She took it extremely hard. She was found dead of an apparent suicide this morning, near the hospital grounds where she worked.

It’s a tragic story indeed. How could a prank go so awry? Why would someone commit suicide over something like this?

People have committed suicide over less dramatic events, certainly, but I have a hunch a lot went on at the hospital following the prank phone call. Sadly, Jacintha probably took LOADS of heat from her superiors and co-workers at the hospital, and you KNOW the public and media were all over her. I’m sure it wasn’t all high-fives and giggles afterward. This seriously affected these two women’s lives. Their livelihood  their jobs, their reputations, and it may have been one woman’s breaking point.

After the prank, the radio personalities, Michael and Mel (below), apologized for their behavior saying, ”We were very surprised that our call was put through. We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well.” Since the reported suicide of Jacintha Saldanha the pair have been off air and are in seclusion.
