Madonna wanted her fans to quit smoking in her presence, even though she was performing at an outdoor venue in Chile. Actually, she wasn’t even performing yet, she was onstage before the show, perhaps doing a sound check. Clearly she was pissed when she looked down into the crowd and saw multiple people lighting up.

“There’s people smoking right now,” she said with a condescending tone. “No. Smoking.”

“If you’re going to smoke cigarettes I’m not going to do a show. You don’t care about me? I don’t care about you. Alright, are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke. Entiendes? (You understand?) If you love me, then don’t smoke. No smoking. You’re looking right at me while you’re smoking cigarettes – like I’m a stupid f***ing idiot.”

Was that a little harsh of her – or did the fans deserve it? She may have said similar words to her daughter Lourdes, who was caught smoking by her mother last spring.
