Anne Hathaway Admits To Being A ‘Witch’ To Husband During ‘Les Miserables’ Filming

Playing a tuberculosis-stricken prostitute wasn’t only physical hell for Anne Hathaway to play in the drama Les Miserables, it also took a toll on her emotionally, so much so that she’s now admitting that she was a pill to deal with in real life.

The 29-year-old actress reveals that she was pretty much a nightmare to live with while she was fulfilling the dark role that she was required to lose 25 pounds for and apparently her (then) fiancé Adam Shulman took the brunt of it unfortunately.

She told Chelsea Handler, “I was a witch. I mean, I was dealing with a lot of darkness and I was starving. So I just wasn’t that much fun to be around.” Hathaway said she thinks it’s “a miracle” Shulman lived through all of it.

She explained: “There was one day when, I kid you not, I picked a fight with him because he wouldn’t watch a sunset with me. I was like, ‘Honey, it’s the most incredible sunset you’ve ever seen, we have to go outside right now and see it.’ And he was like, ‘Honey, I’m on a business call. So just [give me] five minutes.’ And I was like, ‘Fine. That’s great for you.’ And I sat there, and I didn’t even make it the whole five minutes. I just got up.”

The actress and exhibitionist went on to say that she asked that her husband, who is an actor and jewelry designer, fly from London (where she was filming) back home to the U.S. because she couldn’t quite get into her role while they were together. She also was worried her “manic” behavior would jeopardize their four-year relationship.

She goes on: “I realized I was being really unfair to him and that even though I was in a negative place, I couldn’t let it affect our relationship. And also, I needed to go further into that negative place to play my character, and I love him so much that I was like, ‘You’re making me happy. You’re keeping me up and I’m clawing to the sides of my life and I need to fall into a pit and you need to go, honey.’”

Somehow Adam made it through Anne’s torture because he signed on for a lifetime of it in September when the two tied the knot in Big Sur, California. Now, when, if she wins that Oscar, hopefully he’ll know he too, earned that baby.
