George Lucas Engaged To Girlfriend Of Six Years

Star Wars director, George Lucas, has gotten engaged!

The 68-year-old movie man has asked his girlfriend of six years, 43-year-old Mellody Hobsen, a very successful businesswoman, to be his wife and she said yes. A rep for Lucas confirmed the good news Thursday.

The couple has been dating since 2006. This will be the first marriage for Hobsen, and the second for Lucas, who has three kids.

Talk about power couple: Lucas, who is considered one of the most affluent directors of all time (he’s worth somewhere around $3.3 billion), is Hollywood royalty, but his lady is very accomplished in her own right. Currently Hobsen is the president of Ariel Investments, LLC (an investment firm located in Chicago that manages over $3 billion in assets) as well as the director of DreamWorks Animation SKD, Inc., among other big companies, including Starbucks and Groupon. She’s also a financial correspondent to Good Morning America. Busy woman!

What makes these two even more successful at life is their philanthropic efforts. It’s reported that Lucas recently donated much of the $4 billion he made from selling Lucasfilm to Disney to an education foundation.

Lucas has been quoted as saying, “As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy.”
