Drew Barrymore Explains Why Her Mom Didn’t Attend Her Wedding

Drew Barrymore On Oprah 2013

It’s common knowledge that Drew Barrymore had a tough childhood, filled with substance abuse and family issues. When she was 15 the now 37-year-old was awarded an emancipation from her mother Jaid’s custody, but in the more recent years, I’d thought the two had patched things up, but I guess not.

Drew chatted with Oprah Winfrey for Oprah’s Next Chapter, which aired Sunday, and during their conversation the actress revealed that her mom did not attend her and Will Kopelman’s wedding. Actually, Jaid hasn’t even met the couple’s daughter, Olive, who was born in September of last year.

When Oprah asked Drew if her mom attended the wedding, she answered: “She was not there actually, which was really hard.” She adds, “Weboth discussed it and thought it would be best. We really spoke about it — that’s where I feel like a grownup, with my mom.”

As for her mom not meeting her daughter yet she says: “We’ve only been in Los Angeles, we haven’t traveled with [Olive] yet.”

Considering her childhood, it’s wonderful to see how successful and happy Drew is nowadays. She seems to be really loving motherhood and the ‘family life’. She’s still radiates sunshine, I love her.
