Celebrity wax figures are usually a hit or miss, but I think we’ve got four winners here with Whitney Houston. The singer, who passed away last year, is being remembered with four Madame Tussauds creations.
Houston’s manager/sis-in-law Pat Houston, said in a statement Wednesday, “We were extremely honored when Madame Tussauds approached us about doing four figures of Whitney from different points in her 30-year career. This is something we are excited to do for the fans.”
Apparently, this is the first time in 200 years that the museum has created so many different versions of a person at the same time. Each on of the wax Whitney’s will be displayed in different cities, with the youngest version (1988) “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) going to Las Vegas, the 1991 Super Bowl Whitney being sent to Washington, D.C., the 1992 The Bodyguard model is going to Hollywood, and New York will get the more recent look-alike, from a 2009 photo shoot for her last album.
Rosemary Preta, the Director of Marketing, Midway USA at Merlin Entertainments Group said this about the Whitney Houston display: “She was a true and rare talent, and we are exceedingly proud to be adding her wax likeness to our attractions in the United States.”
The figures will be officially unveiled to the public Thursday, March 7, 2013, just shy of a year since Houston passed away.
