TV Director Killed By Sharks in New Zealand

Adam Strange, a television and movie director, was killed yesterday after being attacked by Great White sharks while swimming.

Onlookers watched helplessly as Strange was attacked by sharks on Muriwai Beach in New Zealand Tuesday. As he fought for his life, local police rushed to his aid in a helicopter equipped with a small rescue boat. Police shot at least 20 rounds into the water as a means of scaring the sharks off, but it was too late. Adam Strange was dead. One shark was also killed. It measured 14-feet in length.

School children and families were also enjoying the beach and its water just before the attack. The beach will be closed for the remainder of the week.

Strange was training for an upcoming swimming event when the shark attack happened. He was a regular user of the beach. His family and friends gathered at Muriwai Beach Wednesday morning to console one another and to grieve.

Adam Strange was 46.
