Technology is advancing quickly and it’s affecting everything, including fashion and one of the biggest things right now in the techie world is using 3D machines to create just about anything you want. Fast forward to now, and you’ve got the ability to make a freaking dress! Who better to model the first-ever 3D dress than style icon and burlesque queen, Dita Von Teese.
The retro beauty sizzled in a specially made 3D black nylon mesh gown for a private runway event earlier this week. According to Wired.com, Dita’s “Fibbonaci-inspired gown was designed in collaboration by Michael Schmidt and Francis Bitonti and printed on a 3-D printer at Shapeways.”
Says Bitonti: “The exciting thing about this for me, is what 3-D printing is going to do in every industry. In fashion terms, it would be, you’re bringing your couture logic to something that could potentially be ready to wear.”
As you can see and as Bitonti points out, the dress looks absolutely amazing on Dita. It seems to flow and conform to her body, sort of like one of those Chinese finger traps. It’s very flattering, and I love that cartoonish aspect about it.
According to Schmidt: “The entire dress was designed on an iPad, refined over Skype, rendered digitally by Francis and sent to Shapeways for printing, an entirely virtual endeavor.”
Modern technology! So cool that Dita has made both fashion and technology history!
I’ll take two, thanks.
