Martha Stewart’s beloved puppy, Genghis Khan, was killed in a propane explosion at a dog kennel in Lehighton, Pa.

A propane tank was being refilled near the building when it ignited, setting the pet’s pens on fire.

Fifteen dogs died in the blast, another two died later. The driver of the truck, Timothy Kleinhagen of Summit Hill, was burned badly but has been upgraded from critical to stable condition.

The cause of the incident was thought to have been static electricity.

Stewart blogged about her loss saying she is “deeply saddened” at the loss of her new puppy.

She added that she is keeping the driver, the kennel owner and the surviving dogs in her thoughts.

Her 12-year-old Chow Paw Paw died last year.

After losing his beloved 17-year-old Chihuahua last week, Mickey Rourke has already found himself another companion.

One of the reasons I love the quirky and eccentric Mickey Rourke is because he is a total dog lover, like me.

But sadly, one of Rourke’s longtime companions, a Chihuahua named Loki passed away Monday. She was reported to be 17-years-old. He called Loki the “love of my life” last September.

During his recent Golden Globe’s acceptance speech, the actor thanked his faithful pets saying, “I’d like to thank all my dogs, the ones who are here and the ones who aren’t here anymore. Sometimes, when a man is alone, that’s all you got is your dog. And they’ve meant the world to me.”

Awwwhhh! I just think that is the sweetest thing ever.

Rourke spoke with Barbara Walters recently and explained his love of animals. He said, “I sort of self-destructed and everything came out about 14 years ago or so…the wife had left, the career was over, the money was not an ounce. The dogs were there when no one else was there.”

Matthew McConaughey rides his skateboard down to Malibu beach for a late afternoon jog yesterday.

The actor was, as always, followed by his trusty dog, BJ. He takes BJ with him every single time he goes for a run these days.

Lauren Conrad attended the Humane Society and Animal Fair magazine’s dog-fashion show last night and was supposed to walk the runway with a pooch for charity – instead she left the organizers high and dry refusing to follow through with her obligations.

The event included celebrities and socialites who wore coordinating outfits with either their own dog or a rescue dog, and would stroll the catwalk together. The idea was that after the show the outfits would be auctioned off on eBay to raise money for the animal charities.

Lauren was flown out first-class by the Humane Society and Animal Fair to close the show with a ‘big name’. However, once she got there she was difficult and didn’t want to be bothered with it.

She had no idea what kind of dog she was holding and didn’t seem to care. When a reporter asked her, “What kind of dog is it?” she looked at her publicist hoping she would know. A moment later Conrad carelessly, yet accidentally, slammed the rescue dog into the lens of a video camera. Hard. But we hear the dog is fine.

Law and Order’s Richard Belzer, Real Housewives of New York’s Ramona Singer, and Hairspray’s Nikki Blonksy all did their part to help raise money for the rescued animals, but not little Miss Conrad.

At the end of the show, when Lauren was due to come out and strut her stuff Robert Verdi announced that she was backstage, but would not take her walk. He let the crowd know in a roundabout sort of way what was going on.

“She’s on The Hills. And she’s not coming out. You don’t want to believe the shit that happens with these girls. Anyway, that was it! Thanks for your support!”

The grumbling crowd wasn’t too pleased as they paid $100 to $5,000 for tickets to the event.

Conrad left the show the split second it ended, refusing to answer questions on the way. A PR member of the event whispered to a reporter for NY Mag, “She’s got a bit of an attitude.”

Wendy Diamond, the editor-in-chief of Animal Fair magazine, arranged for Conrad to be a part of the event and was extremely disgusted by Lauren and her publicist’s behavior.

“Her publicist didn’t tell her it was a fashion show. That’s what she said. I just think it’s really rude. We spent probably $10,000 in bringing her here. If you’re going to fly here first-class and get a suite at a hotel for you and your assistant, then that’s what you deal with. There’s no cats here, so we didn’t need any catfights.”

But she didn’t miss the opportunity to take a couple final swipes at Lauren,

“I personally don’t care about Lauren Conrad nor The Hills show — never watched it. I’m disappointed for the animals.”

High-maintenance bitch Kimora Lee Simmons wants to have her dead dog’s ashes turned into a diamond.

Her 18 year-old dog, Zoe, recently died so Kimora wants to have the ashes tuned into something she can wear. It’s all about the accessories, baby.

She told People magazine, “You have to grieve. It’s okay to take time and say this meant something to my life and honor it. There is a company that makes diamonds out of your loved ones. They make diamonds from a little of the carbon from the ash, so I might do that. I might turn her into a diamond.”

What, no cloning?

Paris Hilton is finally being investigated by the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services!

There’s hope for the animals!

Paris and her big mouth bragged on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday about how she owns 17 dogs.  And that’s just the DOGS!

If you remember earlier this week we reported how Paris left her cat at a veterinarian and never returned to pick it up.  Nearly two weeks later, the woman who adopted the cat to Paris decided not to return the pet to her as she obviously didn’t care enough for the pet to retrieve it.

So back to the 17 dogs..

As it turns out, it’s illegal to own more than three dogs at any residential address in L.A. So investigators went to her house Tuesday only to find her home was under construction and no one – including pets – were living on the premises.

They left a message with the maid but haven’t heard back from Paris. That doesn’t mean the investigation is over however.

Paris Hilton has no business owning ANY animal!  Further proof in the story below..

Over the years, Hilton has been seen with dozens of assorted animals, and is always acquiring more it seems. But what happens to them once she tires of them?

She might leave them at the veterinarian. Forever.

Nearly two weeks ago Paris left her kitty, named Prada, at the vet, and has not returned to retrieve the animal.  The clinic phoned Paris a week ago about her kitten, but she still has not returned their phone call.

Prada was there to be neutered.

Could Paris Hilton have been who Ted Casablanca was referring to in this blind item in January? Of course she is. Has to be! Someone lock that bitch in a closet without any mirrors! Heh.

Save the animals – don’t adopt them to Paris Hilton!
