Texting while driving, most teens and many adults do it, not understanding the repercussions of what could happen while taking their eye off the road for a moment.
This public service announcement, made in Wales, is quite controversial at the moment, but I think it is necessary viewing for teens, if not every driver. It’s a brutal reminder of what can really happen in just a split second.
I’ll admit this video was a bit hard for me to watch, being as I lost my little brother in a car accident a few years back, but that’s reality. And reality is not always pretty.
Did you know:
Up to a quarter of the estimated 40,000 vehicle fatalities in the U.S. annually may be traced back to distracted drivers texting.
A recent Virginia Tech study found that texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in a collision than nontexters.
Although the AAA reports 95 percent of drivers polled acknowledge texting while driving is dangerous, 21 percent of them have done it recently anyway.
So have your teenager watch this, or pass it on to your friends. You might just save a life.
Caster Semenya, the 18-year-old winner of last night’s 800 meter final at the World Championships in Berlin, is at the center of a gender bender controversy.
Is she really female?
Semenya looks very manly and even has a deep voice, but her family insists that yes, she is a SHE!
However, many don’t believe her gender so they are asking that she undergo a “gender verification test”. Which is a DNA test to determine her sex.
Semenya’s mother, Dorcus Semenya, told the press: “If you go to my home village and ask any of my neighbors, they would tell you that Mokgadi is a girl. They know because they helped raise her. People can say whatever they like but the truth will remain, which is that my child is a girl. I am not concerned about such things.”
Her father, Jacob Semenya, agreed: “She is my little girl. I raised her and I have never doubted her gender. She is a woman and I can repeat that a million times. I have no doubt she is going to make us all proud. For the first time South Africans have someone to be proud of and detractors are already shouting wolf. It is unfair.”
Caster’s sister Nkele, 16, also confirmed her sibling’s gender: “People must stop calling her a man because we are proud of her.”
Caster’s BFF Deborah Morolong says that she is definitely female, but has never had an interest in men, and has never had a boyfriend.
South Africa team manager Phiwe Mlangeni-Tsholetsane said: “There was no cheating. We entered her as a woman and want to keep it that way.”
This poor girl! Although she definitely looks like a man, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be stupid enough to enter her in women’s competitions if she WAS a man…would they?
Michelle Obama chose to wear shorts while returning from a family vacation at the Grand Canyon.
Some people, who obviously have nothing better to do, are complaining that shorts are inappropriate for the first lady, and that her shorts are, in fact, too short.
Please people, these shorts probably have a 10-inch zipper. She looks fine. I honestly cannot believe what some people will bitch about..
Do you think Michelle Obama’s shorts are TOO short?
Michael Vick held a press conference this afternoon after being reinstated by the NFL and signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Michael served 18-months for his role in a vicious dog fighting ring.
Vick apologized for his actions during the press conference, saying he now wants to be a part of the solution. He admits complete wrongdoing, saying that part of his life was all wrong. He says he wants to be a positive role model now and that he understands that playing for the NFL is a privilege, not a right.
As many of you know, I am one of the biggest dog lovers, dare I say, in the world. I personally own a dog (a Pitbull/American Bulldog mix) who, as a small puppy, was used as “bait” in dog fighting. Meaning, he was thrown into the ring and the fighting dogs were allowed to chew him up, in order for them to get blood thirsty and ready to fight. Then he would be pulled out of the ring and tossed to the side, as the fighting dogs went into action.
Generally dog fighters use the more docile dogs as bait, being as they won’t make good fighters. My dog, Eddie, at some point around 9 months old, either escaped or was dumped off somewhere, left to fend for himself. It took kind people over a week to capture Eddie, who was covered in scars and wounds, was terrified of everyone, and was practically starving to death.
Luckily for him, and for us, he was recovered by some very loving people who nursed him back to health before we found him, immediately falling in love with him and his story. There is a lot more to Ed’s story, which I won’t go into, but let’s just say that the dog fighting ring where he comes from, is HUGE. So huge in fact, that even local police are said to be involved. It’s really awful, but luckily some wonderful animal lovers are working on uncovering and exposing the people involved in the ring.
So back to Michael Vick.
As much as I love dogs, I always say, everyone deserves a second chance. How often in our own lives have we all wished for one? As cruel as his actions were, he did serve his time, and is seemingly making a terrible thing into something positive. I just hope he really is sincere, and he really does make an impact on those involved in this horrible act.
What is your opinion of all of this? Do you think he deserves a second chance? An opportunity to make it right? Or do you think something so awful doesn’t deserve one? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
That’s what autopsy results are reportedly showing. Mays’ autopsy results were made public on Friday.
The medical examiner says he found proof that Mays used cocaine a few days before his death on June 28th, and says there is evidence that cocaine use may have “contributed to the development of heart disease.”
Also found in his system were painkillers, anti-anxiety medication and alcohol.
Mays’ wife, Deborah, is outraged at the findings, insisting that her husband did not do illegal drugs, and that the only meds he was using were painkillers for a hip problem.
She blasted the medical examiner saying that his findings were “speculative, and frankly unnecessary.” She plans on hiring an independent expert to investigate.
She released a statement about the claims of cocaine use by her husband:
“Billy suffered from chronic, untreated hypertension. Given the hectic nature and pace of Billy’s life, especially during the past 10 months of his exhaustive travel across the country, it was not surprising to hear that hypertension was the cause of his death.”
I highly doubt that the medical examiner would lie about such findings. Yes, Billy apparently did suffer from untreated heart disease, a condition that when mixed with cocaine can have deadly consequences.
Billy may have used behind his wife’s back, and right now she is in total denial. OR she is just putting up a front to protect her husband’s honor. If he did cocaine, she most likely did it too. Either way, both scenarios are entirely possible.
A TMZ photographer recently asked Jessica Simpson if she was going to take back the $100,000 boat that she gave ex-boyfriend Tony Romo for his birthday.
Her reply? “I’m not an Indian giver.”
So of course, TMZ took that and ran with it, calling Jessica out for not being politically correct.
These photographers are such jackasses. They talk with the celebrity, in this case, Jessica and her parents, and lay on the fake flattery and the ass kissing in hopes of getting the celeb to say something. But when they do, it’s never the right thing. The photographers and gossip rags always have to make something out of nothing.
Sure, it’s not the PC thing to say, but must we make it out to be like Jessica is suddenly a racist because of it?
Michael Vick has been reinstated to the NFL – under certain conditions.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Vick Monday, specifying that he will be able to particpate in practices, workouts and meetings starting immediately. He is also allowed to play in the preseason’s final two games. He may be able to play in regular season games as early as October. If he can find a team who will sign him, that is.
Goodell stated in a letter to Vick:
“Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited. I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and to dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career. If you do this, the NFL will support you.”
However, many teams (including the New York Giants and New York Jets) have already expressed their disdain for Vick and say they have no plans of signing him.
Vick has responded to the reinstatement via his agent:
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to commissioner Goodell for allowing me to be readmitted to the National Football League,” Vick said through agent Joel Segal. “I fully understand that playing football in the NFL is a privilege, not a right, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I have been given.
As you can imagine, the last two years have given me time to re-evaluate my life, mature as an individual and fully understand the terrible mistakes I have made in the past and what type of life I must lead moving forward.
Again, I want to thank the commissioner for the chance to return to the game I love and the opportunity to become an example of positive change.”
I always say that people deserve a second chance, but man, this one is hard for me. I am such an animal lover. And seeing photos of dogs who have been used in dog fighting makes me sick to my stomach and immediately makes me want to say ‘no, he doesn’t deserve it.’
But I do hope he can take this situation and truly make something positive of it. I hope he understands the serevity of what he did and is truly remorseful. I’d love to see him campaign for animal rights.
Do you think he will be signed? Or better yet – do you think he deserves to be?
Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of Joey Buttafuoco who was shot in the face point blank by her husband’s teenaged mistress 17-years ago, is speaking out about the ordeal.
“I believed him when he said he had nothing to do with her [Amy Fisher]. He was a very good sociopath and a liar. When I thought about it and looked it up on the internet, and looked at sociopathic tendencies, I said ‘Oh my God.’”
She now believes that Joey is a sociopath. But back in 1992, even after she was shot, she refused to believe that her husband had been having an affair with the “Long Island Lolita”, as Amy was later dubbed by the media. I was 20-years-old at the time and remember thinking, “Is this woman THAT clueless?”
The incident happened after Amy went to Mary Jo & Joey’s home and knocked on the door. When Mary Jo answered, Amy shot her in the face, leaving Mary Jo partially blind in one eye with some facial paralysis.
She served only seven years for the crime and has never shown any remorse. Now she is a porn star who revels in the spotlight.
Joey, on the other hand is remarried and has been in trouble with the law numerous times since the shooting. He’s a real dirtbag. He’s been busted for soliciting a prostitute, insurance fraud and illegal possession of ammunition.
