I love the guy. I always have. Even since sporting his new unabomber look.

But these days people aren’t talking about his acting. People, including me, now look at him and can’t help but wonder, “Is it all an act? Has he gone mad? Or – Is he fried on drugs?”

Phoenix came out in “character” again last night. He rapped (terribly) onstage at a Miami club and, at some point, became enraged by a heckler in the audience.

“We have a f***ing a**hole in the audience,” he said before jumping down into the audience and heading straight to the man in question. It’s unknown if punches were thrown. Security closed in immediately and took Joaquin away as the crowd chanted his name.

And here’s something for you to chew on – the man who filmed the entire thing was Joaquin’s brother-in-law, Casey Affleck. I think that’s a clue. If Joaquin were mental I doubt his relative would be taping it. Unless he is just as fascinated by this behavior as we are.

Joaquin is probably just living as this character for a certain amount of time as a sort of acting experiment – or possibly for some other experimental means. Hell, maybe he lost a bet. But I don’t think he’s crazy. Just give it some time. The explanation will come crawling out of that beard at some point.

I think that he is in character, what character, I don’t know, and whether drugs are involved or not, I also don’t know.

He seems like a nutjob who has been smoking a whole lotta something. But I think he’s toying with us, taking his acting skills and playing a prank. And why wouldn’t he? It’s called working the media! You can keep your name in the headlines by calling attention to yourself and besides, f***ing with media HAS to be a total joy. I would totally do it if I was famous..

Nope, it’s just Joaquin Phoenix making a special appearance at Lavo Nightclub in Las Vegas.

And if his appearance wasn’t enough to throw you off, how about picturing him as a rapper?

Joaquin says he’s keen on making music. And not just any music, but rap music.

“After all the years of reading scripts and reading lines, this is my chance to do something straight from the heart and put it out there. When I was young I liked punk rock music but then I discovered rap. I love the storytelling aspect of hip-hop.”

“When my brother passed it was toward the end of an era. If it had happened much later, it would have been on a lot of f**king blogs. The amount of information flying back and forth now has just gone beyond comprehension… In some ways it’s hard to swallow. It makes you feel sick about yourself and about human beings. You look at yourself and say, ‘When have I exploited others and been voyeuristic?’

The thing we should be discussing in the news, what the media should be going after in a heartless way, isn’t the family of somebody who has passed away, but instead – oh, I don’t know – how about a president who’s lying? That’s not to say my brother’s life didn’t have value, but it certainly did not deserve to be covered more than world politics and other important issues, particularly when death happens every day to millions of people all over the world and we don’t seem to give a f**k about that.”
