Here is the actual letter Lane Garrison, 27, wrote to Access Hollywood from prison. Garrison is serving 40 months for killing a 17 year-old in a DUI related accident.

I believe Garrison is truly sorry for what he did, and I think he will leave prison a changed man. I feel bad for him because he screwed up, he made a terrible mistake that cost a young man his life, but I don’t think he intended to hurt anyone. He thought he was invincible, like most young adults do. The “it’ll never happen to me,” mentality. But it does happen, and it happened to Lane. And I believe he has been humbled.

I hope when he gets out of prison he can persuade others not to drink and drive by sharing his story. He really can turn this into a positive. Hopefully the victim’s family can forgive him. If that can happen, I think his chances for leading a normal and possibly inspirational life after prison are good.

Remember, if you want to write to Lane, he’s got lots of time to read your encouraging letters. Drop him a postcard at:

Petitioners Recommend Maximum Penalty for Lane Garrison (Updated)

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

lanegarrison07.jpg

More than 3,600 people have signed a petition requesting that the judge give Lane Garrison the maximum punishment in his vehicular manslaughter case.

Garrison is facing a maximum term of six years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and two other alcohol-related charges. The charges stem from a car accident last December that left 17-year-old Beverly Hills High School student Vahagn Setian dead and a 15-year-old girl injured.

Along with his manslaughter plea, Garrison admitted he provided alcohol to minors and that he registered a blood-alcohol level of over 0.15 percent on the night of the crash.

The sentencing was postponed in August when a judge ruled that Garrison should get a psychiatric evaluation to help decide his sentence.

At the August hearing, Garrison told the judge, “This is an out-of-body experience for me. I’m reminded of that night every day and I think about the bad decision I made. I am so sorry.”

The actor, who played Tweener on the FOX’s Prison Break, was driving his Land Rover SUV in Beverly Hills with three teenage passengers on the night of Dec. 2 when the vehicle struck a tree.

Garrison later recorded a two-minute public service announcement warning young people about drinking and driving.

You know, I can’t help but feel bad for Lane. Yes, what he did was inexcusable and stupid. But everyone makes mistakes, and some have very, very grim outcomes. I also believe that everyone deserves a second chance. I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve jail time, but I think nearly seven years is a bit harsh.

He would be better off doing an assload of community service and other proactive things for the community. I feel I can speak on this matter because my brother was killed in a drunk driving accident. Lane seems truly sorry for what he did and I can’t imagine the burden he will have to carry around for the rest of his life.

Let this serve as a reminder kids, it might be a holiday, but don’t drink and drive. Can you imagine being in the position Lane is in? I bet he thought it would never happen to him either.

UPDATE: LANE HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN THREE YEARS IN PRISON

From TMZ.com:

A judge has sentenced “Prison Break” star Lane Garrison to a total of forty months — nearly four years — in state prison for the drunk driving crash that caused the death of 17-year-old Vahagn Setian.

As he sentenced him, Judge Elden Fox told Lane he thought he was a human being who made a very bad mistake — and that he committed a crime and devastated three families.

Fox told Garrison, “I think you are truly remorseful,” but sentenced him to prison because “the public needs to know crimes like this need to be punished and, unfortunately, you have to be the messenger.” The sentence was based on Garrison’s lack of prior criminal history and that he admitted responsibility, pleaded guilty right away and has offered the families financial assistance.

Before sentencing, a highly emotional Garrison told the victims’ families he was “genuinely remorseful” and “sickened” by his behavior that night.

Garrison he will get credit for the 91 days he has already served. That, combined with California’s Work Time/Good Time early release program, means he will likely be in state prison for about 20 months.

He must also pay close to $300,000 to the Setian family and to the two girls who were in the car.

Lane was quiet after the sentence was handed down and was taken away in handcuffs.

Lane Garrison was Downing Shots Before Accident

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

I really think this is sad.

I know a bunch of people out there are thinking, “Hang him!”, but I had someone very close to me die in a similar accident.
People just don’t realize the dangers of driving while wasted.
This is a very sad situation..for everyone involved. Lane has some very hard times ahead of him.

From TMZ:

“TMZ has exclusively learned that Lane Garrison drank “several shots” of Grey Goose vodka at a party before driving a Land Rover that crashed in Beverly Hills, killing 17-year-old high school student Vahagn Setian and injuring two 15-year-old girls. This contradicts the account of Harland Braun, Garrison’s attorney, who told TMZ that the “Prison Break” star had consumed only one drink at the party, and that he doubted that Garrison was intoxicated when he took the wheel.

Five eyewitnesses from the party tell TMZ that Garrison arrived at the party with Setian and two women, whom he had met earlier at a gas station. They say Lane brought a bottle of Grey Goose vodka to the party and unveiled the bottle to the crowd with a flourish. The gathering was described by several attendees as a “kick back of around 30 people.” The eyewitnesses, all acquaintances of Setian, say that Garrison then started taking shots of the vodka and offering shots to other partygoers. Several eyewitnesses also said photographs were taken of Garrison consuming alcohol.

Later in the evening, when the alcohol at the party was running low, the eyewitnesses say that Garrison agreed to drive out to buy more, and took Setian and two girls with him. Four hours elapsed, they say, before they became concerned and drove out to look for Garrison, Setian and the young women. After discovering the accident, they then drove to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where they learned that Setian had died.

Attorney Harland Braun tells TMZ that ultimately the results of Garrison’s blood alcohol test could tell the story. The results of that test are two weeks away.”
