Movie Review by Spicy Pants

I don’t need to tell you how funnny Dave Chapelle is. If you have seen ‘The Chappelle Show’ before then you what a treat you are in for with ‘The Lost Episodes’. And if you haven’t seen it before Dave left the show then this DVD will leave you begging for more of his skits. Dave Chappelle has a way of getting us to laugh at ourselves. Whether we are Black, White, Asian or Hispanic. He plays on stereotypes that we are all sometimes uncomfortable with and has a way of making them funny and comedic. Which is something Dave obviously struggled with before he left his outrageously popular show.
The show addresses the issues he had playing the ‘Black Pixie’ (shown on the DVD) and how he wondered if “instead of sending up stereotypes if he was merely reinforcing them.” They even go into the audience and let them say what they thought about The Chappelle Show and if the stereotypes on their show were more harsh on some races more than others. Some said it is good to laugh at ourselves, one woman thought the stereotypes of Afro-Americans was less forviging than that of the white characters played by Chappelle. She went on to say that the Fried Chicken, Watermelon scenes had been played out, and that the Caucasians were always portrayed as educated smart men, even if they were being made fun of. Hmm..that DID make sense. Another Afro-American woman stood up and said that it was not The Dave Chappelle Show’s responsibility to educate people on racism and that it is a comedy show and people should treat it as such. I for one, agree with her. Watch this movie and laugh. I think that was Dave’s intention.
My favorite skit was ‘Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold.’ Pt.1
One of the funniest skits ever regarding revenge. Years ago Dave asked a woman he was in love with to marry him only to find out that that night the bitch cheated on him. She ended up marrying that guy. So time goes on and Dave has become rich. Now he wants revenge on the woman who broke his heart. So he goes to her house, dressed to the nine’s, brings her flowers and tells her that he has always loved her. He begs her to leave his wife and come to be with him. He says he will send a private jet for her in the morning. She arrives by his jet the following day and has an unexpected surprise. I guarrantee that you will laugh your ass off on this one.

All in all would Spicy recommend this movie? Absolutely. This is not a DVD you should rent..this is one you should BUY for your own collection!

Mr. Spicy’s Movie Review

Mr. Spicy reviews, “Shakespeare Behind Bars “.

The ‘Big House’. Life behind bars is not something we typically think about. William Shakespeare probably did not entertain the notion of real life criminals acting out his final great play, The Tempest, either. A true-life documentary of convicted murderers and thieves, Shakespeare Behind Bars digs within the walls of Kentucky’s Luther Luckett prison and unfolds one of the most interesting but intriguing stories of our day. A novice Shakespearian at best, I was compelled with emotion watching hardened criminals trying to come to terms with themselves, forgiveness, and redemption. Their fuel is a passion to act and be productive within the walls of prison. This documentary guides you through an entire year of incarceration with a handful of criminals who also play the roles of murderers, thieves, and fugitives in The Tempest. Some don’t make it. Some go to the ‘Hole’. Some are transferred to maximum security. One is so moved by the Shakespeare opportunity that he gave up two months of early parole to finish what he started. All is a surprise in this 93 minute DVD with another 45 minutes of behind the scenes. The Tempest underlying theme of foregiveness is at the very heart of this documentary. A film written and directed by Hank Rogerson, Shakespeare Behind Bars will leave you considering the true possibility of transformation and redemption.

Mr. Spicy’s verdict? Absolutely rent this DVD.

Celebrity Smack Movie Review: "World’s Fastest Indian"

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Reviewed by Mr. Spicy - Out on DVD June 13, 2006

Like a good bottle of Merlot, some things just get better with time. Anthony Hopkins reflects a well aged wine and is simply outstanding as Burt Munro in “The World’s Fastest Indian”. A true story of speed, tenacity, and courage as Burt endures years of motorcycle building - leading up to his dream of running his custom built 1920’s era Indian motorcycle on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah set in the late 1960s. Mind you his bike reflects many gravely concerning parts and components but Munro brings an undying belief and determination that he can set a new land-speed record on this machine. His journey begins in his hometown in New Zealand where you swear that Hopkins is a born-and-bread Kiwi through-and-through. The easy going and witty Munro has virtually no money but some great friends of all ages. Finally, his trip to the states with bike in-tow is a comical string of events that ultimately lends him the chance to live out his dream. I wished there were more scenes of him riding his bike, but the theme here is one of real life, real people, and an absolutely amazing true story. The movie is excellent for all ages and the ending is certainly a surprise. Now available on DVD, I think I’ll go pour a glass of nicely-aged merlot and watch this again~
