Nick Carter Sobers Up, Drops Almost 60 Pounds
Backstreet Boy Nick Carter admits he partied too much.
Last spring Carter experienced minor chest pains and fatigue while on tour in Europe. It scared him. After returning home he went to a cardiologist who told him he had cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscle.
The night before he got his results he panicked. “I went out and just went nuts,” he admitted. “I drank so much and I did a bunch of blow. I felt like I was trying to kill myself because I didn’t want to get the results.”
Carter says his drinking and drugging was out of control for 10 years. In that time he ballooned up to 224 pounds, rendered himself a DUI, and was involved in a bar brawl. But nothing stopped him until he learned about his heart. That’s when, he says, he decided to change his life.
“I don’t want to die. I don’t want to be that person people read about and think, ‘That’s sad that he couldn’t stop it and killed himself.’”
Carter’s current weight? 167 lbs.
