Patrick Swayze’s Cancer Spreads

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Doctors have told Patrick Swayze, 56, that his cancer has spread and he has limited time to live.

Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January. It has since spread to his liver. He was told that once the cancer spread to his liver that would signal “the beginning of the end.”

The actor has been fatigued and suffering from increased weakness in recent days. He has been receiving Cyberknife radiotherapy at Stanford University’s Medical Center which has been beneficial up until this point.

Swayze has kept busy this year, he just finished filming The Beast in Chicago, where he had been working up to 12-hour days.

The Roadhouse star said earlier this year,

“I’m still fine to work, I haven’t changed – oh, I have changed, what am I saying? It’s a battle zone I go through. Chemo, no matter how you cut it, is hell on wheels.”

Patrick Swayze Living Quality Life, Responding Well to Treatment

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Patrick Swayze isn’t letting pancreatic cancer keep him down.

Back in March rumors swarmed that Swayze may only have five weeks to live. That was twelve weeks ago.

Swayze, 55, says his body is responding well to the experimental CyberKnife treatment at Stanford University Medical Center. The CyberKnife delivers high doses of radiation to the cancer in his pancreas without damaging surrounding tissue.

Patrick and his wife, Lisa Niemi, have been keeping busy, enjoying life to the fullest. This weekend they attended a Lakers game and the couple celebrated Lisa’s birthday on Monday. They also recently renewed their marriage vows on their New Mexico ranch.

Patrick released the following statement to People magazine:

“Thought I’d give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa’s birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well.”

Cancer is just so terrible. I, as many of you, have lost a loved one to cancer and damn, it is really awful. Sometimes death comes so quickly – and other times it doesn’t happen fast enough. Either way, it is a really terrible way to die, and it is incredibly difficult on families.

I wish Patrick and his wife the best. I think they are very fortunate to be able to spend quality time together as they have been doing.

They are a shining example to Hollywood as to what true love really is.

Next month the couple will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary.

Patrick Swayze has decided to turn to an experimental procedure in hopes of treating his pancreatic cancer.

A new surgical tool called the CyberKnife is used to deliver high doses of radiation to the affected area without damaging surrounding tissue. Doctors hope that the treatment will stop the cancer from growing or shrink the pancreas enough to where it can be removed.

Swayze is receiving the treatment at Stanford University’s Cancer Center.

Patrick Swayze’s Doctor Refutes Claims He Has 5 Weeks to Live

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

swayze-9.jpg

As we reported yesterday, the National Enquirer published a story claiming that Patrick Swayze had only 5 weeks to live.

The story went on to claim that the actor had lost 20 pounds in recent weeks and could not keep solid foods down. However, his publicist released a statement denying those claims.

“Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick’s physician Dr. George Fisher states, ‘Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.’ Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family.”

This is good news. Hopefully things aren’t as grim as previously thought.

Best wishes to Patrick.

Patrick Swayze Has Only 5 Weeks to Live

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

The National Enquirer is reporting the shocking news that Patrick Swayze only has five weeks to live.

Swayze, 55, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late January and apparently it has spread to other organs.

He has been receiving ‘radical chemotherapy’ treatment at Stanford University’s cancer center in Palo Alto but doctors fear there is no more they can do for him. The three major doses he received did shrink the tumor, but less than expected.

A source said, “He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short – they held out little hope for a cure.”

“It’s time to start praying for a miracle.”

He has reportedly been told to prepare for the end of his life. Patrick has lost more than 20 pounds in the last few weeks and can barely keep solid foods down.

This is just terrible, terrible news. Cancer is such an ugly disease! It’s very hard on everyone involved – unfortunately I know from experience. Let’s hope the Enquirer is wrong about this and that Patrick continues to live a productive life – the magazine has gone overboard in celebrities diagnosis in the past…
