Rodney King wins his first celebrity boxing match

Rodney King won his fight this weekend, against a former cop with a chip on his shoulder.

I was really hoping Rodney would pull it off, he is such a great guy. So I am thrilled to tell you that he DID win!

Press Release:

(Essington, PA) – Rodney King, the man known throughout the world for pleading with a nation, “Can’t we all get along?” was the winner in a unanimous decision in 3 rounds defeating former Pennsylvania PD officer, Simon Aouad headlining Celebrity Boxing 11 presented by the Celebrity Boxing Federation at the Philadelphia Airport Ramada, Friday September 11th.
The fans were clearly behind Rodney as he fought tooth and nail with Simon and at the end Rodney was the victor. Rodney had this to say after the fight, “This is a new chapter in my life, I am sober, fit and now a winner.”

King was the victim of police brutality, committed by Los Angeles police officers, and the L.A. Riots which followed brought him national attention.

Last seen on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Sober Living”, Rodney has been busy dedicating his life to sobriety and becoming a better father to his kids.

Rodney King is interested in fighting all over the world if you are interested in having him appear in your area email celebrityboxing@gmail.com

Also on the card, Former Michael Jackson Bodyguard, “Bodyguard to the Stars” Scott Cummings won his match in a first round TKO over Mike Tate.” One down and Canseco you are next my brother”, said Cummings.

Watch: Rodney King Boxing Former Cop, Sept. 11th

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

rodney-king-boxing-match

Rodney King is set to fight former police officer Simon Aouad this Friday, September 11, at 8:00PM EST.

So, from what I am reading about this cop guy, I guess he is pretty intense. He was an ass at the weigh-in and was uttering mad sh*t talk under his breath in the photo above. Later, while Rodney was speaking Simon wigged out and lunged at Rodney. He had to be restrained. So this guy is psycho. I am totally rooting for Rodney. Did you see him on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew? He is just a sweetheart of a man, and he has really turned his life around. How can you not root for him?

King will be donating a portion of his pay-per-view proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club.

The Celebrity Boxing Federation fight will take place on Saturday, September 11th in Boothwyn, PA. at the Maple Zone Sports & Fitness Center in Boothwyn. The doors open at 7:30 p.m.

You can watch the fight LIVE HERE for $7.99!

For ticket information, contact Center Stage Tickets at 800-677-8499, or Maple Zone Sports & Fitness Center at 610-358-5500.

Rodney King vs. Cop: Celebrity Boxing Match

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

rodney-king-boxing

Rodney King is set to take on a former police officer in a celebrity boxing match on September 11th. [EDIT: NOT the 12th!]

King, who was beaten by police in Los Angeles in 1991, will take on former Pennsylvania police officer, Simon Aouad, in Celebrity Boxing 11.

You may have seen Rodney on the VH1 reality show, Celebrity Rehab earlier this year, and if you did, you saw that really, he’s a very sweet man who has turned his life around after acknowledging his problem with alcohol and then seeking treatment. Which has been successful by the way..

Rodney says it’s not about fighting a cop, he is just psyched to take part in a boxing match in which he pushes his body and mind to the limits. He says:

“I know some people will see the irony here. But I would have fought anyone who was worthy . . .  I take this very seriously. Never felt better—physically and in the mind.

King will be donating a portion of his pay-per-view proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club. He is currently  training in San Bernardino, Calif. with Icon fighters at American University.

The Celebrity Boxing Federation fight will take place on Saturday, September 11th in Boothwyn, PA. at the Maple Zone Sports & Fitness Center in Boothwyn. The doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Also, a quick heads up, it looks like Spicy is most likely going to be involved in a boxing match at an upcoming Celebrity Boxing Event! I have been in contact with the promoter, Damon Feldman, and it’s looking like it just might go down, although it is not 100% confirmed at this point. And no, I don’t know who I would be fighting…yet. I’m shooting for a spring match though. I’ll keep you informed.. xoxo

Rodney King Speaks Out on Police Beating

Friday, February 20th, 2009

rodney

“I look at it a total different way today. You know, I don’t hate them. If it hadn’t happened, a lot of things wouldn’t have changed. I don’t think we’d have a black president as soon as we had one … minorities getting in positions that would have taken more years to get into. There’s a positive thing that came out of a horrible situation.”

- Rodney King when asked if he hates the policemen who beat him.
