Simon Cowell on Former Idol’s Lost Record Deals

Friday, January 11th, 2008

simoncowell108.jpg

Simon Cowell blames the instability of the music industry on Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard and Katharine McPhee losing their record deals.

Recently all three former Idols have been dropped by their labels.

Cowell says that just because you scored a record deal it does not guarantee you a lifelong career.

He says, “It’s a reflection on the unpredictability of the record business. Fortunately, we got it right more than we got it wrong. There’s no scientific way to explain what happens. It’s a reality show and what happens at the end is also reality.”

Cowell adds that the 2007 winners haven’t done as well as he had anticipated either.

“Naturally, I’m disappointed that they didn’t sell more copies or that neither artist has caught on fire. What you want (is) a Carrie (Underwood), Daughtry or Kelly Clarkson, where they’re competing with the Mariahs. It didn’t happen. Am I surprised? Not particularly. The public decided it’s not necessarily what they wanted, so we have to try to do better this year.”

Simon Cowell Says Britney Loves the Attention She Gets in the Media

Friday, November 9th, 2007

thumbs-cowell.jpgthumbs-brit.jpg

Simon Cowell agrees with me when it comes to Britney Spears. She absolutly loves the attention she gets in the press, good or bad.

Whether she is pantyless, (supposedly) fighting for her children or shaving her hair off, Britney treats it all the same. Like a circus.

Cowell said,

“The biggest stars in the world do not court or need the paparazzi or the buzz. I genuinely am starting to think that she’s enjoying this.”

Starting? Most of us knew this ages ago! Britney has created her own world and is living in this sort of bubble that’s most certainly far, far away from reality.

Straight up, bitch needs help.

Unfortunately she chooses to surround herself with people who enable her to be this way. She’ll never get help unless she ditches…UGH. Let me stop right there. We all know what she needs, and I am tired of saying it.

The end.

Paula Abdul Gives the Scoop on This Year’s American Idol Auditions

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

american-idol-07a.jpg

Tastes like chicken!

Paula Abdul spoke with People magazine and dished on this years American Idol auditions.

She says that so far she and black sweater wearing Simon Cowell are getting along well, they are just disagreeing on the talent.

Abdul says,

“What’s happening is Randy and I have been agreeing on the talent as he disagrees. He thinks we don’t know what we’re talking about, and the truth is Randy and I do know what we’re talking about. It’s Randy and Paula against Simon. I’m on the winning side!”“In the past couple of cities we’ve had no arguments. He’s still pestering me like hell, but we get along pretty well.”

Randy Jackson says Simon is “cranky” as usual, and that this years contestants are,

“..really, really good, I must say. You still get the crazy buffoonery going on, but for the most it’s been pretty good. I would say somebody with skin and teeth is definitely going to win!”

Abdul agrees.

“Last season, I’m going to be real honest, I wasn’t as excited, I wasn’t sure, I wasn’t certain. As the season progressed it was fun to see how Jordin [Sparks] really came through, and she’s such an amazing kid. This season the auditions [have] some very, very exciting talent. All different—good-looking kids, crazy kids, great back stories, interesting backgrounds, and kids that really went out there, went out on a unique limb to be different and to capture our attention.”

Abdul says there will still be the oddball and zany contestants as usual.

“Oh God, there’s going to be one person who’s probably going to have a bigger career than William Hung, let me tell you!”

Special Olympics Says American Idol Should Be Commended

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Answering to allegations that American Idol’s judges treated Jonathan Jayne, a Special Olympics athlete, poorly during his Seattle audition, The Special Olympics Committee has come forward with a positive spin on the situation.

Special Olympics International released a public statement Sunday and published it in Monday’s The Washington Post.

“American Idol should be commended for providing Jayne with the same opportunity to succeed as any other contestant. Whether on the stage of American Idol or on the field of competition for Special Olympics, people with intellectual disabilities don’t want pity or special treatment. They want to be judged for who they are and appreciated for what they can achieve.”

“While polite isn’t a word one would normally associate with Cowell and company, a viewing of the episode in question shows that the judges were in fact gracious and very encouraging to Jayne during his rendition of ‘God Bless America.’ “ They also mentioned Paula’s encouraging words of, “Always believe in yourself”.

Simon also spoke his mind regarding the controversy that judges are much harsher on contestants this year.

He told the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, “To suggest that because somebody has done something like [Special Olympics] they shouldn’t be allowed to enter the competition smacks to me of censorship, to be honest with you.”

“I don’t think that we should be censors on the type of people. And what we’re trying to be, I think, on the show, more than anything else, is representative. A lot of the bad singers you are seeing — trust me — there are thousands that didn’t make it through. And I think if you asked any of those thousands who didn’t make it through, every one of them would say, ‘I wish I had the chance.’”

Simon has also been quoted in Monday’s USA Today. He says that they warn contestants beforehand of the flack they will get if they aren’t good.

“We tell them that they’re going to get a hard time if they’re not very good. No one leaves the room.”

He added that the people who are the most emotionally distraught after being turned down “are simply not shown. Most of the people we show, we feel that they can cope with whatever is going to happen.”

On the flip side, Simon also said that the contestants that don’t make it don’t always ‘lose’.
“They’ve become celebrities. They wouldn’t have changed anything.”

Rosie Goes After Paula & America Idol

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Rosie lashed out at the American Idol judges, and especially Paula Abdul after viewing a clip of the show where the judges harshly ridiculed a contestant.

“That’s compassion. Isn’t that what America thinks is entertainment? To make fun of someone’s physical appearance, then, when they leave the room, laugh hysterically at them. Three millionaires, one, probably intoxicated.”

“Paula was very thirsty last night. Did anyone else notice?” O’Donnell asked.

“Every shot, that woman was sipping the ‘Coca-Cola’ in her cup,” she said, adding a wink during the words “Coca-Cola” that seemed to indicate Abdul wasn’t sipping a soft drink.

“Towards the end of the show, one eye was wandering,” she said.

O’Donnell called the show, “terribly sad.”

The judges made fun of one small contestant who had bulging eyes. Simon told him he looked like ‘a bush baby’. I wonder if Simon would have made that same comment to Marty Feldman’s face?

Another contestant who was quite large was asked, “Who convinced you to try out for this?”

It happened over and over last night. They showcased all the people who were strange looking and then shit on them horribly.

You couldn’t help but feel bad for some of them. It’s only funny until someone blows their head off..
That being said, I still love the lame show.

The latest entry from Rosie’s blog:

“Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth.
They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them.
Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can’t see them.
Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you.
If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself…soul-less and evil.
You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life.”
