Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years Prison for Tax Evasion!

Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years prison in Florida today on tax evasion charges after a jury found him guilty in February.

Snipes failed to pay taxes for three years resulting in the government claiming he owed nearly $3 million dollars. However, his attorneys claim that he owes only $228,000.

His lawyers requested that U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges limit their client’s sentence in a hearing this morning. They thought he should get no prison time and no fine. Instead, he received the maximum penalty.

Snipes was acquitted of three other similar misdemeanors as well as two felony charges of tax fraud and conspiracy.

Two months after being charged with tax fraud, Wesley Snipes decided to finally show up at an Orlando airport via private jet to turn himself in.

Snipes was charged with fraudulently accepting tax refunds in the amount of $12 million dollars on income taxes already paid. He had also failed to do a tax return from 1999-2004.

The arrest was confirmed by an ‘official’ who wanted to remain anonymous, as the news hadn’t broke town yet.

From ABC.com: “According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. The firm American Rights Litigators would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients.”

Snipes says he thinks he is a scapegoat and is being treated unfairly. He was due in court this morning.

If you don’t want to pay the taxes, then get the funk out. As for the $12 million returns? I find that hard to believe that he wouldn’t have a clue what was going on.

Wesley Snipes Charged with Tax Fraud

Wesley Snipes was charged with tax fraud today in an indictment that states he illegally claimed refunds of almost $12 million.

A warrant has been issued for Wesley’s arrest, but his whereabouts is unknown. A federal grand jury has indicted Snipes and co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn of Sorrento, Florida, (believed to be in Panama) and Douglas Rosile, of Venice, Florida, who has turned himself in. Allegedly Snipes did not file federal income tax returns from 1999-2004 and conspired with Kahn and Rosile to file two amended returns for Snipes for 1996 and 1997 fraudulently claiming tax refunds of almost $12 million. Kahn is the founder of American Rights Litigators and its successor, Guiding Light of God Ministries, both based in central Florida. Rosile is an accountant who prepared tax returns for ARL members. It is reported that Kahn and Rosile had a scheme that claimed U.S. citizens and residents did not have to pay taxes on income earned in the United States. The conspiracy and false claim charges each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $200,000 fine. Snipes also faces up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine on each charge of failing to file income tax returns.
